Dorr Joins DARPA Information Science and Technology Study Group

Bonnie Dorr, a professor emerita of computer science who co-founded the Computational Linguistics and Information Processing (CLIP) Laboratory, was just named to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) Information Science and Technology (ISAT) study group.

ISAT brings together a rotating group of approximately 30 select scientists and engineers that identify new areas of development in computer and communication technologies and recommend future research pathways.

Dorr is leading researcher in the field of natural language processing. Her work helped established the new field of Cyber-Natural Language Processing, bringing together expertise at the intersection of cyber, social computing, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing.

As a longtime member of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, Dorr was active in research involving broad-scale multilingual processing that included machine translation, summarization, and cross-language information retrieval.

She retired from the University of Maryland in 2013, and a year later joined the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition as an associate director and senior research scientist.
