Pop Authors Op-Ed Calling for Greater Equality in Academia

Mihai Pop, a professor of computer science and interim director of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), recently authored an opinion piece that calls for greater equality in academia.

The article appeared in the most recent issue of The Faculty Voice, a newsletter for faculty in the University System of Maryland.

It offered a personal reflection of Pop’s own academic journey, and the distinct change he experienced by moving from the ranks of an assistant research scientist to a tenured faculty member.

Pop concludes by calling for the university to better recognize—and support—faculty or research scientists that are in the early stages of their academic career.
