Srinivasan Elected Member of the Academia Europaea
Aravind Srinivasan, a professor of computer science with an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), has been elected a 2018 member of the Academia Europaea.
Formed in 1988, the Academia Europaea is the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters. It currently has a membership of more than 3,800 eminent scholars that represent multiple disciplines, nationalities and geographical locations.
Following a rigorous peer review process, Srinivasan was among 302 international scholars invited to accept membership this year within the organization’s four classes: humanities, social and related sciences, exact sciences, and life sciences.
Srinivasan was specifically noted for his work in informatics (i.e., computer science).
He is widely recognized as an expert in randomized algorithms, social networks and combinatorial optimization. Much of this work involves the confluence of algorithms, networks and randomness, as they relate to public health, machine learning, e-commerce and other fields.
Srinivasan is also an ACM Fellow, an IEEE Fellow, a AAAS Fellow, and an EATCS Fellow.
