Zuxuan Wu, Doctoral Student in CfAR, Is Named Microsoft Research Ph.D. Fellow

Zuxuan Wu, a third-year computer science doctoral student working in the Center for Automation Research (CfAR), was just named a 2019 Microsoft Research Ph.D. Fellow.

The Microsoft award is a two-year fellowship for doctoral students at North American universities who are pursuing projects aligned to research topics carried out by Microsoft.

Wu was one of 10 doctoral candidates to receive the prestigious award this year. The fellowship covers tuition and provides a stipend to help cover living expenses and travel costs to conferences.

Wu’s research is focused on deep learning, computer vision and multimedia. He is particularly interested in the development of novel algorithms and systems for large-scale video understanding.

He has developed several systems that have achieved high levels of performance in international competitions such as the YouTube–8M Video Classification Challenge.

Wu is advised by Larry Davis, a Distinguished University Professor of computer science who is the current director of CfAR.
