Katz Featured in Voting Security Story
Tue Sep 01, 2015
Jonathan Katz, a professor of computer science and director of the Maryland Cybersecurity Center, is featured in a story on the Who.What.Why website about how foreign hackers could tamper with U.S. elections.
The article notes that various methods of voting, including voting machines and voting online, can potentially be insecure and vulnerable to attacks.
Katz observes that even if a system appears safe, voting online allows hackers to examine the system for points of vulnerability.
“I wouldn’t necessarily go so far to say that everything done over the internet is insecure, but you are certainly opening yourself up to the potential for hackers to look at your system and try to find vulnerabilities,” he says.
