Hajiaghayi Selected as Editor-in-Chief of Algorithmica
Mohammad T. Hajiaghayi, the Jack and Rita G. Minker Professor of Computer Science at the University of Maryland, was recently chosen to serve as editor-in-chief of Algorithmica, the oldest existing international journal dedicated to algorithms.
The journal, founded in 1986, publishes theoretical papers on algorithms that address problems arising in practical areas, as well as experimental papers of practical importance.
Hajiaghayi, who has an appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies and is a core faculty member in the University of Maryland Center for Machine Learning, says he is honored to serve as senior editor of the publication.
“I’ve read papers from Algorithmica since I was an undergraduate student at Sharif University,” he says. “The journal has sparked my interest on numerous new ideas and concepts related to algorithms, and I’m thrilled that several leaders in the field serve on the publication’s editorial board.”
Hajiaghayi’s own research interests are focused on algorithmic game theory and combinatorial auctions, network design, combinatorial optimizations and approximation algorithms, fixed-parameter algorithms, algorithmic graph theory, distributed and mobile computing, and computational geometry and embeddings.
He is an elected Guggenheim Fellow, an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow, an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Fellow and a Fellow of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS).
