Elmqvist Named ACM Distinguished Member

Niklas Elmqvist, an associate professor in the College of Information Studies (iSchool) and director of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL), has been named a 2018 Distinguished Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) for his outstanding contributions to computing.

He is among 49 ACM members to be recognized with this distinction. According to the ACM, Distinguished Members are, “exemplars for their peers, and represent ACM’s worldwide geographic reach, as well as the exciting range of subdisciplines that constitute today’s technology landscape.”

The program recognizes up to 10 percent of ACM worldwide membership based on professional experience as well as significant achievements in the computing field.
Elmqvist’s research focuses on information visualization, human-computer interaction, and visual analytics.

He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER award as well as best paper awards from the IEEE Information Visualization conference, the International Journal of Virtual Reality, and the ASME IDETC/CIE 2013 conference.

Additionally, Elmqvist was recognized with the Purdue Student Government Graduate Mentoring Award in 2014, a Ruth and Joel Spira Outstanding Teacher Award in 2012, and the Purdue ECE Chicago Alumni New Faculty award in 2010.
